Prestigioasa revista internationala de film Sight and Sound, cea care publica la fiecare 10 ani un top cu cele mai bune filme facute vreodata, a dat publicitatii ierarhiile din acest an. Peste 350 de regizori si-au exprimat parerile cu privire la acest subiect. Printre cei care au votat s-au aflat si Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola si Michael Mann, cinci regizori care nu mai au nevoie de nicio prezentare.

Alegerile au fost in concordanta cu asteptarile specialistilor si ale pasionatilor de film, doar plasarea pe locul patru a productiei Avatar pe lista lui Michael Mann fiind considerata o surpriza pentru cinefili.
